Introduction by Janette Cameron

Good morning. This is Sunday 6th September, and it is the Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost.

The Bells of the Old Parish Church of Peebles ring out to welcome you to the church family. Worshipping together in heart and spirit, even if having to sit at
home to do so in these strange times.

This morning we shall be considering the wisdom of the Psalmist, and the lessons to be learned from studying the Psalms.

Fourteenth Sunday After Pentecost

HYMN: Sing to God new songs of worship

PRAYER

Read by Rev John Smith

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Now and evermore.
From the rising of the sun to its setting
The Lord’s name be praised.

Your voice burns within the depths of our being,
O God of our ancestors,
and draws us into your presence and service.
Hear the cries of your people and speak a word of comfort,
that we may proclaim to all the earth the glory of your name. Amen.

THE LORD'S PRAYER

LESSON

Read by Janette Dunlop (Eddleston)
Psalm 149

Praise the LORD! Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise in the
assembly of the faithful.
Let Israel be glad in its Maker; let the children of Zion rejoice in their King.
Let them praise his name with dancing, making melody to him with
tambourine and lyre.
For the LORD takes pleasure in his people; he adorns the humble with
victory.
Let the faithful exult in glory; let them sing for joy on their couches.
Let the high praises of God be in their throats and two-edged swords in
their hands, to execute vengeance on the nations and punishment on the peoples,
to bind their kings with fetters and their nobles with chains of iron,
to execute on them the judgment decreed. This is glory for all his faithful
ones. Praise the LORD!

Reflection

HYMN: Fairest Lord Jesus

Said by Rev John Smith

Creator God,
you call us to love and serve you with body, mind, and spirit
through loving your creation and our sisters and brothers.
Open our hearts in compassion and receive our petitions
on behalf of the needs of the church and the world.

Let us remember all those whose lives are threatened
Or diminished by hunger, thirst, disease, war or natural disaster.

Holy One,
hear our prayers and make us faithful stewards of the fragile bounty of this earth
so that we may be entrusted with the riches of heaven. Amen.

PRAYER IN TIME OF CRISIS

Lord Jesus,
In the midst of a storm,
You said, ‘Peace, be still’.
Bid our anxious fears subside,
Sustain your church in faith, hope and love.
Bring our nation, and our world through this tumult.
Grant wisdom to those with heavy responsibilities,
And healing and hope to all those who are infected.
Amen.

HYMN: Jesus shall reign where e'r the sun

BENEDICTION

Said by Rev John Smith

God among us,
we have gathered in the name of your Son
to learn love for one another.
Turn our feet from evil paths,
our hands from shameful deeds,
our minds to your wisdom,
and our hearts to your grace. Amen.

The blessing of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit
Be with us all this day and in all the days to come.  AMEN
