Service for Sunday 29th March 2020

PRAYER and Lord's Prayer

“The Deliverer will come from Zion,
He will banish ungodliness from Jacob;
And this will be my covenant with them
when I take away their sins.”

God our Father, we come to you with Jesus –
the Jesus whose love for you and all mankind brought him to the cross.
Through his great love, we recognise your love.
And it’s a love that isn’t far above and beyond us,
a love untouched by our weakness and sorrow,

but it’s here with us, here and now;
reaching out in gentleness and mercy; always ready to forgive;
always ready to accept even us, soiled and unworthy as we are.
And so we praise you, our God.
We praise you for Jesus, we praise you for Jesus crucified.
Through his acceptance of the cruelty of mankind, we see your mercy;

through his desolation, we’re given hope;
through his dying, we’re brought to the light and hope of eternal life.

Father God, forgive us: forgive our every failure in love;

every harsh word; mean action; destructive thought.

Forgive us our narrow-mindedness; our refusals to be caught up in your Spirit,
or to enter into the Christian experience and adventure;
all our undermining of other peoples’ faith by our bigotry and our selfishness,
by our small-mindedness – our spiritual infirmity.

And so, Father, give us new vision, give us new hope,

new hope in one another and in Christ Jesus;
give us new compassion and concern for all the people we know and meet,
so that we may do justice to your love, as we’ve seen it in Jesus Christ our Lord,
And in whose words we continue to pray and say together: “Our Father...”
“Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come,
thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil:
for thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever.
AMEN.”
