Introduction by Ronald Ireland

Today is Trinity Sunday when the Church celebrates the mystery and the majesty of God – the one God who is revealed in Holy Scripture as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

While our churches remain closed for worship the church bells still ring out, calling the people to worship and prayer wherever you may be sharing in this service.

Trinity Sunday

PRAYER

Said by Very Rev Finlay Macdonald

I bind unto myself today, the strong name of the Trinity;
By invocation of the same, the Three in One and One in Three

Let us pray

Christ be with me, Christ within me
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me.
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger

Amen

HYMN: Holy, holy holy (CH4 111)

LESSON

Read by Alastair Robertson

Hear the Word of God – a reading from the Book of Genesis, chapter 1, verses 1-5

In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and morning, the first day.

And from the Gospel according to St Matthew, chapter 28, verses 16-20

Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus directed them. When they saw him they worshipped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

This is the Word of the Lord; thanks be to God.

PRAYER

Said by Very Rev Finlay Macdonald

Father, Son and Holy Spirit, for all, down the centuries, who witness to your glory we give thanks and praise; may we in our day and generation live as faithfully, replicating that witness and showing the love of Christ to the world;

In these days of pandemic we pray for all whose lives have been devastated by illness and loss; and we pray for nurses and doctors and scientists working to bring healing and comfort, and to discover ways of defeating the virus;
