Fifth Sunday After Pentecost

Hymn: Great is thy faithfulness

PRAYER

Said by Rev John Smith

Dear Lord, as we rise to meet each new day, please let us be filled
with Your spirit. Wherever we go, let us spread love, joy, peace,
goodness, and faithfulness. Let us desire to become more like you
and to worship you in all we do. Help us desire these things with all
our hearts and minds and soul and strength. Thank you for always
going before us.

God of the new day and God of love,
You created us and you have redeemed us.
As you scatter the mist from the hills, banish the deeds of darkness
From the sons and daughters of your light.
Help us to know and believe
That as the children of your love
We are free to begin again.

THE LORD’S PRAYER

LESSON

Read by Frances Carrol
Matthew 11:16-19: 25-30

But to what will I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the
marketplaces and calling to one another,

'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you
did not mourn.'

For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a
demon’; the Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Look, a
glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' Yet wisdom
is vindicated by her deeds."

At that time Jesus said, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent
and have revealed them to infants; yes, Father, for such was your
gracious will.

All things have been handed over to me by my Father; and no one knows
the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son
and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

"Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and
I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am
gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

Hymn: I heard the voice of Jesus say

REFLECTION:

by Rev John Smith

Hymn: To God be the glory

PRAYER

Said by Rev John Smith

Let us pray
Hidden God,
We rejoice that we can know you in Jesus Christ.
Through his comfortable words he brought rest to the weary,
Hope to the downcast.

We give thanks that because of his example
Prejudice no longer binds us,
Fear has lost its power,
And all that makes us weak
Has met its match in Christ.

Amen.

PRAYER IN TIME OF CRISIS
Lord Jesus,
In the midst of a storm,
You said, ‘Peace be still.’
Bid our anxious fears subside,
Sustain your church in faith, hope and love,
Bring our nation, and our world through this tumult, Grant wisdom to those with heavy responsibilities, And healing and hope to those who are infected.

Amen.

BENEDICTION

Your eyes have seen God’s love;
Open them to look for the glorious hope.

Your ears have heard his songs;
Close them to clamour and dispute.

Your souls and bodies have been fed
By the Word of life. Serve the Lord with joy and gladness.

The blessing of God almighty,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
Be with you.

Amen
